Questions & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Crane rental, rigging, operators, and how we work — across Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.
What size crane do I need for my job?
Crane sizing depends on the weight of your load, the distance from the center pin to where it will be set (radius), and the lift height. Call us with your weight and dimensions and we'll recommend the most efficient machine — and for tricky picks our estimators will come to your site.
Do you provide operators?
Yes. Most of our work is manned crane rental with licensed, NCCCO-certified Local 478 union operators in fully insured, well-maintained equipment. Bare rentals — where you supply your own certified operator — are also available throughout the Northeast.
What is your service area?
We provide full-service crane and rigging in Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Bare rentals reach further: VT, NH, ME, NJ, and PA.
How long has A Quick Pick been in business?
We're a family-owned crane and rigging company serving the Northeast since 1984 — more than 40 years.
Do you offer 24/7 or emergency crane service?
Yes. Our philosophy has always been to be available at a moment's notice, so we offer 24/7 service for emergencies and time-sensitive jobs across CT, NY, RI, and MA.
What's the difference between manned and bare crane rental?
Manned rental includes a licensed Local 478 union operator and full insurance at an all-inclusive rate — the most common choice. Bare rental means you provide your own certified operator, fuel, and insurance; we offer it on rough terrain, tower, and crawler cranes.
What types of cranes can I rent from A Quick Pick?
Our fleet runs from 17-ton boom trucks up to a 400-ton all-terrain crane, and includes boom trucks, hydraulic truck cranes, all-terrain, rough terrain, tower, and crawler cranes — so we can match the right machine to your job.
Will I be charged more if you send a larger crane?
No. Sometimes we send a larger crane to complete your job safely, but you're only charged the rate for the crane your job actually requires. With Quick Pick you pay for what you need.
How do you make sure the crane is safe for my pick?
We confirm the crane has enough capacity for your pick against the manufacturer's load chart. If it doesn't, we send a bigger crane or we don't do the job — safety is never compromised.
What kinds of equipment can you rig and move?
We place and move heavy equipment in tight spots — machinery, presses, generators, boilers, chillers, switch gear, transformers, artwork, and more — through windows or garages, up or down stairs, even removing walls or cutting roof openings when a job calls for it.
Do you provide riggers, or just the crane?
We provide the full package — experienced riggers, the cranes and specialized equipment, and the personnel to plan and complete complicated rigging jobs safely across CT, NY, RI, and MA.
Can you handle rigging in occupied or finished buildings?
Yes. Our riggers take great care to protect your equipment and the surrounding area, and we work with you to come up with safe, cost-effective solutions for tight or finished spaces.
